Challenge

Kemps is a leader in frozen desserts, and was looking to refresh its brand experience to deliver on its brand promise of quality ice cream with delicious flavor. Comprised of product lines with distinct positioning and flavor strategies, the brand was looking for a design strategy that brought cohesion to the portfolio while still reflecting each line’s uniqueness. 

Action Taken

DuPuis partnered with Kemps to modernize the brand with a cohesive brand identity that delivers on taste and allows for distinction with product lines. We began by exploring several ways-in, including custom photography, across product lines to enhance appetite appeal and reinforce the brand’s family farmer creds. When the final look/feel was selected, we extended it to all frozen dessert SKUs and shot original photography for every SKU. The final original ice cream, frozen yogurt and novelties lines feature a custom illustration that brings to life the brand’s story of local family farms and “It’s the cows” positioning, along with photography that heroes taste. The Crafted line features elevated flavor cues and a beautiful spoonful of ice cream on a golden spoon to reinforce the premium experience and taste.

The refreshed packaging rolled out to shelf in 2025.
